Inside Bayonet, Birmingham’s new seafood restaurant and raw bar
Reading time: 2 minutes

This weekend, James Beard semifinalist chef Rob McDaniel and his wife Emily McDaniel hosted a soft opening for their new restaurant: Bayonet.
Located next to Helen—the couple’s first Birmingham restaurant—Bayonet features a variety of seafood dishes, a raw bar highlighting oysters from the Gulf Coast and a cocktail bar.
The McDaniels bring a new restaurant to Birmingham

It’s almost been five years since Emily and Rob McDaniel opened Helen in downtown Birmingham. Located in the historic Meelheim Building at 2013 2nd Avenue N, Helen is a contemporary Southern grill offering up classic dishes prepared in an open kitchen using high-quality products from local sources.
Now, the couple is opening their second Birmingham restaurant right next door.

Located in the historic Berry Building at 2015 2nd Avenue N, Bayonet is a new raw bar and seafood restaurant focused on, “sustainably sourced seafood, innovative preparation techniques, and bold, locally inspired flavors.”
On the menu, you’ll find a variety of dishes featuring fresh seafood straight from the Gulf Coast, such as swordfish, yellowtail snapper and—of course—oysters.

Inside, Bayonet will be able to accommodate up to 54 guests at dining tables and the cocktail bar.
