Held every January since 2000, National CRNA Week celebrates the nation’s Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and their important role in lifesaving medical procedures. To celebrate, we interviewed two CRNAs at Children’s of Alabama to see why they love their jobs.
Let’s meet them!
Angie Strickland has been at Children’s for 33 years
Angie Strickland has called The Magic City home since she was eight years old.
After earning degrees from Jefferson State Community College, Jacksonville State University and the University of Alabama, Angie joined the Children’s of Alabama team 33 years ago.
In her role as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), she provides anesthesia services for children undergoing surgical procedures.
She also manages emergency situations in the operating room like airway and fluid resuscitation, and transports patients to and from the operating room and imaging suites.
Linsley Lloyd fell in love with the people at Children’s of Alabama
Linsley Lloyd grew up in Missouri, but has lived in various parts of Alabama since she was 17 years old—Daphne, Huntsville and now Birmingham.
Linsley started at Children’s in July 2024 after finishing her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nurse Anesthesia at Samford University.
As a CRNA, she meets patients and completes pre-anesthesia assessments, risk evaluation and anesthesia planning.
In addition to pre-anesthesia assessments, Linsley administers monitored sedation care, regional and general anesthesia. This way, she can ensure safe patient wakeups and respond to any airway management emergencies.

3 questions for Angie + Linsley
1. What brought you to Children’s?
- Angie: “I began my nursing career at UAB. I left to take a full-time position on the IV Team at Children’s, but missed the babies. After about 3 years, I took a full-time position in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and stayed until I completed anesthesia school.”
- Linsley: “The people at Children’s are largely what brought me here! I loved pediatrics and didn’t want to miss out on working with people in this profession I respected so much.”
2. What’s one of your favorite parts of the job?
- Angie: “Surgery and anesthesia can be terrifying for children and their families, so I try to make it less scary for the children. I love to draw characters on the bag of the anesthesia machine for the children to distract them while they fall asleep.”
- Linsley: “As a CRNA, my patients wake up after surgery in a better physical and mental state. I love the instant satisfaction of being the person who helps control their pain. I also love how everyone who works in the operating room comes together to take care of these patients. It’s unlike anywhere else I have been!”
3. What is your ‘why’?
- Angie: “I have always loved children; to see the world from the perspective of a child is so refreshing. They are honest and trusting—qualities we need more of in the world. Children are our future and it is our job to protect and nurture them. I cannot imagine working anywhere else.”
- Linsley: “Nursing is the best way I know how to be a good and faithful servant. There’s just something special about working for the most resilient and brave patient population out there, and those patients are the kids.”
