Audiences around the world have fallen in love with Wicked thanks to last fall’s blockbuster movie adaptation and this fall, Birmingham will get the chance to experience the magic in person. The Tony-winning fantasy musical Wicked will kick off the 2025-26 Broadway in Birmingham series with a three-week run at the BJCC Concert Hall from September 3rd through September 21st.

In case you’ve been living under a rock (or a house), Wicked tells the classic story of The Wizard of Oz from the perspective of the Wicked Witch of the West and features songs from songwriter Stephen Schwartz. Tickets for the show are likely to be in high demand but thankfully, Wicked will be in Birmingham for 24 performances, giving Birmingham residents plenty of opportunities to see the show.

“Wicked is the fourth longest running show in Broadway history. It just celebrated its 21st anniversary on Broadway this last October and this national tour will be a great spark for reigniting the Wicked fandom again, because it’ll be in between those the two movies. So just as we’re gearing up for the second Wicked movie, you can enjoy the stage show here in Birmingham for three weeks.”

The 2025-26 season will be mark the tenth anniversary of the Broadway in Birmingham series, and this season will include some of the most popular shows in recent Broadway history. Anderson says Birmingham has grown over the past ten years into one of the nation’s most reliable and enthusiastic markets for live musical theater.

“I have been with the American Theater Guild for 10 years. So I have got to see Birmingham grow from this, you know, little-market-that-could to this booming, Broadway-loving city that just gobbles up everything that we program for them. So the fact that this 10th anniversary year is a banner year with Wicked and then some new Tony Award winners, some family favorites, and then some really beloved fan favorites really just make the season perfect for new and existing Broadway lovers to kick off another 10 years plus of Broadway magic.”
