Major League Baseball launches auction to benefit Willie Mays Park restoration in Fairfield

Major League Baseball (MLB) is stepping up to renovate Willie Mays Park in Fairfield.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the MLB is holding a press conference today to announce it will be supporting the park through this yearβs Winter Meetings Charity Auction.
The annual showcase is organized by the 30 MLB teams, Minor League affiliates and public relations directors. Past auctions have supported:
- Organizations fighting cancer and ALS
- Negro Leagues Baseball Museum
- Jackie Robinson Foundation
- Boys & Girls Club in Uvalde, Texas, in the wake of the Robb Elementary School mass shooting
What is in store for Willie Mays Park in Fairfield
Dedicated in 1985, the Willie Mays Park was last refurbished in 2009. The baseball field is no longer usable.
Some of the improvements will include:
- New baseball field
- Irrigation system
- Fencing
- Dugouts
The park honors Willie Mays, one of the greatest baseball players of all time, who passed away this summer days before he was to be honored at the MLB Salute to the Negro Leagues at Birmingham’s Rickwood Field.
One of the many initiatives the MLB launched during the week of May’s passing included restoring Willie Mays Park.
The park is located at 409 66th St, Fairfield, AL 35064.

This yearβs auction went live Sunday, December 8 and will run through 7PM on Thursday, December 12. Priceless items and fan experiences are up for bid.
