Will a Southeastern Conference team play at the Birmingham Bowl this year?

The college bowl prognosticators think so.

According to five national media outlets, Oklahoma, Florida and Arkansas are in the running, thanks to 13 out of the 16 SEC schools becoming bowl-eligible and a Birmingham Bowl tie-in with the conference.

Birmingham Bowl Projections

The 18th edition of the Birmingham Bowl is set for Friday, December 27 at Protective Stadium. The big game will feature teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference, American Athletic Conference or the SEC.

Presently, no one has a clue who is coming. Check out these potential matchup predictions:

  • USA Today: Georgia Tech v. Florida
  • Sporting News: North Carolina v. Oklahoma
  • CBS Sports: West Virginia v. Arkansas
  • Althon: NC State v. Arkansas
  • 247: NC State v. Oklahoma

The teams will be chosen Sunday, December 8th.

Why the Birmingham Bowl matters

Since the game’s inception in 2006, the Birmingham Bowl has generated over $181 million in economic impact for the Birmingham community. The game has also donated over $460,000 to the Monday Morning Quarterback Club’s charitable arm — Quarterbacking Children’s Health Foundation.
