Moxi, an innovative new childcare startup, is establishing its flagship childcare center in downtown Birmingham.

Located at 2229 1st Avenue North in the historic Black Diamond building, the 13,100 square foot center will be used for:

  • On-demand care for children 12 weeks to 5 years old
  • Co-working space and a fitness studio for the families who use the childcare center

“It’s our first location with the full model inside of it. There will be childcare services, a co-working space and a fitness studio, as well as a place for community events that we’ll have for our members. It will provide fun ways to get to know other families or learn things about parenting.”

Cori Fain-Forrest, Moxi Founder

Members of Moxi will also receive full access to a member-exclusive app which allows booking and paying for flexible, on-demand childcare.

Addressing the childcare crisis

The service is used by families from all walks of life. That may encompass stay-at-home parents who need time to take care of a loved one as well as time off to go to a doctor’s appointment or the professional who needs help while at work.

The Birmingham-based service addresses the childcare crisis that has taken hold in The Magic City and the state of Alabama. The numbers are staggering.

  • 85,000 families in Alabama cannot access childcare
  • Alabama has $164 million in earnings and state income lost due to childcare
  • 45% of women who left the workforce cited childcare as a top reason
  • 236 children are on the average childcare waitlist

Moxi addresses this problem head-on.

“It is a crisis, and Moxi is a piece of the solution. Frankly, presently there is not something that exists in  the childcare ecosystem like it. There is no high quality care option that you can book flexibly.”

Cori Fain-Forrest, Moxi Founder

Moxi plans to open the childcare center in Summer 2025. Want to learn more about how it will work? Visit Moxi’s website for more information.
