About the No-Show Ball

No Show Ball
The Junior Board of Visitors helps make the No-Show Ball happen each year in Birmingham. (UAB School of Nursing)

Behind this annual event is the Junior Board of Visitors (JBOV). The group raises funds for the UAB School of Nursing’s programs.

This year, their goal is to create scholarships for UAB’s Nurse-Midwifery students.

Since the very first No-Show Ball in 2007, the event’s continued to be a huge success.

Can you guess how much it’s raised in total over the years? $958,558.67. That’s almost $1 million!

“Nurse-Midwifery scholarships will provide vital support to our students who will be traveling to areas of need across the state for essential clinical education and training.

Funds raised will help our future nurse-midwives to be ‘practice-ready’ for delivering excellent care to mothers and babies across Alabama.

Our students are dedicated to increasing access to nurse-midwives in rural areas where the need for maternity care is greatest.”

Allison Shorten, UAB Professor and Chair of the Department of Acute, Chronic and Continuing Care, Director of UAB’s Women and Children Health Initiative, PhD, RN, FACM, FNAP, FAAN
