The Hoover City Council approved Monday night a Southeastern Conference proposal to extend the SEC Baseball Tournament at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium through 2028 with options to continue the event to 2030.

The Hoover Park and Recreation Board will take a final vote today on whether to accept the terms of the agreement.

According to the Hoover Sun, Hoover is offering to make $11 million in improvements at the Met.

Big crowds in 2023 and 2024

Hoover has hosted the SEC Baseball Tournament for 27 years. The event has shattered attendance records over the past two years.

  • 2024 — 180,004
  • 2023 — 171,288

In addition to the big crowds, an SEC team has won the NCAA Baseball Championship title in Omaha six out of the past seven times the game has been played (the 2020 series was canceled because of Covid).
