The last Macy’s store in Alabama has been listed for sale.

According to a listing by SRS Real Estate Properties, the 225,763-square-foot Macy’s at the Riverchase Galleria is on the market.

No decision yet on Macy’s closure

Is Macy’s closing?  The final decision has not been made.

Below is Macy’s statement:

Our new strategy is designed to create a more modern Macy’s, Inc. and enhance the customer experience. We intend to close approximately 150 Macy’s stores while further investing in our 350 go-forward fleet over the next three years. A final decision on specific locations has yet to be made.

On background: There is a current evaluation underway comparing the potential real estate value and the future sales growth profitability potential. We look forward to continuing to serve our customers at this time. If at some point we proceed with closing this location, the soonest this will happen will be in 2025.

The last Macy’s to close in Birmingham was at Brookwood Mall in 2022. The store at the Riverchase Galleria is the only one left in the state of Alabama.
