About Hand in Paw + Picasso Pets

Picasso Pets
Picasso Pets supports a purr-fect cause. (Hand in Paw)

I love the comfort and companionship animals bring me, and I know so many others agree.

Hand in Paw is a nonprofit that trains animals and their owners to help people of all ages with emotional and physical challenges. Therapy Teams deliver compassion to several facilities across Central Alabama and Tuscaloosa.

They have many therapy programs, including:

  • HIP Heals, which provide therapeutic visits in a variety of settings including hospitals, nursing homes, universities and early intervention organizations.
  • HIP Reads, which helps students achieve academic and educational goals in the classroom
  • Hip Cares pairs students with HIP volunteer mentors to learn animal behavior.

Picasso Pets raises funds that help bring Animal-Assisted Therapy to those who need it most.

The face of the next year’s Picasso Pets is auctioned off during the live auction at the event. Whoever wins the auctioned painting works with Hand in Paw staff to choose a theme for the following year’s event.

They also work with a photographer, and sometimes a local artist, to create a picture of their pet.

Learn more about the work Hand in Paw is doing in Birmingham, and we’ll see you at Wild Woof West, animal lovers!
