7 new + coming soon businesses in the Birmingham area, including a new downtown seafood restaurant

Summer is flying by, and every week brings a new round of businesses and upcoming projects to look forward to.

From a new locally-owned café in Montevallo to a popular pizzeria coming soon to the Uptown District, read on for who’s opening their doors around Birmingham.

Openings

1. Magnolia Point | Southside

Magnolia Point—a new seafood restaurant created by Pihakis Restaurant Group and local developer Michael Mouron—officially opened its doors to the public last week. The concept is a casual, full-service establishment focused on, “seafood favorites reminiscent of beach bars and surfside restaurants.”

Located in a 1930s-era building, Magnolia Point leans on the warmth and charm of the historic building. It features like exposed brick walls, penny tile floors and an intricate wood bartop comprised of a giant felled Magnolia tree, created by Alabama Sawyer.

2. Boston Fish Supreme | Hoover

A popular seafood joint, Boston Fish Supreme, has moved into the former Falafel Cafe space in Riverchase Plaza. The new location is Boston Fish Supreme’s sixth in the Birmingham metro area.

The restaurant serves fish dinners and sandwiches featuring whiting, catfish and tilapia as well as shrimp, burgers and wings.

3. Meri Moon | Montevallo

There’s a new locally-owned restaurant open in Montevallo. Dubbed Meri Moon, the eatery is owned by Rachel Phillips and former Eclipse Bookstore owner Cheryl Patton.

The casual eatery is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner serving a variety of sandwiches, charcuterie boards and much more.

4. Five Guys Burgers & Fries | Hoover

Hungry for a burger, shelled peanuts and a big bag of fries? Five Guys Burgers & Fries opened its 29th Alabama location on Wednesday, July 17 at Stadium Trace Village in Hoover. 

5. Ross Dress For Less | Homewood

A new Ross Dress For Less has opened off of Lakeshore Drive in Homewood. Known as one of the nation’s largest discount retailers, Ross opened officially on Saturday, July 20.

6. Carver Jones Market | Fairfield

The Carver Jones Market is opening in Fairfield next week. This minority-owned market is aiming to reduce food insecurity in the Fairfield community by giving them access to affordable, fresh foods and other necessities.

7. Capella Pizzeria | Uptown

A taste of Italy is coming soon to Uptown. Capella Pizzeria is establishing its third Birmingham location in the former home of Your Pie near the BJCC.

This family-owned pizzeria is known for simple, fresh and seriously tasty pizza using authentic Italian ingredients.
