Want meaningful connections, a liberal arts college experience and to pursue nursing? Great news! The University of Montevallo (UM) will welcome its first-ever nursing program this fall.
We talked to the Dean about how UM Nursing will create opportunities and careers for students, locals and beyond. Here’s what we learned.
Coming fall 2024: University of Montevallo nursing program
Housed in the University’s recently renovated Myrick Hall, UM Nursing offers everything needed to excel in the modern world of nursing.
From high-fidelity simulation rooms to the latest lab and technology equipment, the program will offer every advantage to those entering the field.
Here’s a glance at what UM Nursing offers:
- Liberal arts environment ensuring advanced problem-solving techniques
- Regional healthcare partnerships
- Small class sizes—1:8 student-teacher ratio in clinical courses
- Wide variety of scholarship opportunities
“Nurses belong at Montevallo”
Dr. Crystal Bennett, who was recruited to be the Dean of the College of Health Professions, filled me in on why she’s excited about the college’s new major.
“We need nurses in the local community and the state. Adding a program, even with a small group of students, can help retain our students in Alabama and keep them locally.
I know for the University, it’s a huge impact. The College of Health Professions is going to create an opportunity for students to have a home base for their degrees and a chance to collaborate with other professions.”
Crystal Bennett, PhD, RN, Dean of the College of Health Professions, University of Montevallo
It can be challenging to find quality nursing faculty, especially during a nationwide shortage. Another obstacle is finding nursing staff who are dedicated to the communities where they live.
Three of the College of Health Professions’ recent hires are from the surrounding area. This allows them to engage in both local efforts and students’ lives.
Be a part of this camaraderie—apply to UM Nursing now.
