When the Birmingham Stallions take the field on Saturday night at Protective Stadium they will be riding the longest current winning streak in pro football at 14 games.

In the middle of its third season, the two-time defending USFL champs have compiled a 28-3 record. Move over Nick Saban!

How good have the Stallions been during its inaugural UFL campaign? They punched their ticket for the playoffs by week 6.

Led by Head Coach Skip Holtz, the team is exceptional in every phase of the game, with an aggressive punishing defense and an efficient balanced attack on offense. There are stars all over the field and a few characters too — we’re looking at you viral shirtless Cole Schneider.

Birmingham, we’ve truly got a special football team here in the Magic City and they deserve our support.

If you haven’t made it out to a game yet, here are a few reasons why you should “Giddy Up! and support the Stallions.

Two of the three losses the Stallions have experienced in its short history have come at the hands of the Houston franchise. It is the one team that has had the Stallions number. It’s time to exorcize those demons. This will be a very competitive game.

On Saturday the Stallions will be honoring veterans with its “Hats off to Heroes” game.

The team planned to visit the Birmingham VA Hospital this Friday, but unfortunately because of flight delays they will need to reschedule that meaningful event.

The Stallions are all about community involvement. Who can ever forget the “Puppy Bomb” surprise at Legion Field supporting the Greater Birmingham Humane Society and this winter’s Community Food Bank of Central Alabama food drive with all the other local pro teams in Birmingham.

Making history every game

The current 14 game win streak is the longest in Birmingham’s storied pro football history, according  to local Birmingham pro football historian Scott Adamson. Before the Stallions’ present run, the 1974 Birmingham Americans started the season winning their first 10 games en route to their World Bowl title.

Every win extending the Stallions streak is history making.
