A new kind of toy store + play concept is open across from Central Park in Homewood.

Called Goodies Toy Store, this first-of-its-kind business sells goodie bags and boxes for kids to fill with toys and play onsite.

How Goodies Toy Store works

The new toy store is the brainchild of Ginny and Joe Leavens, whom you may recognize as the owners of Homewood Bagel Company.

Here is how it works:

Think “candy store concept with a toy store style.”

When kids enter, they are given a pail or shopping cart to collect small toys and goodies from over 75 plastic tubes.

They’ll discover a huge variety of fun finds, including:

  • Army men
  • Art supplies
  • Bouncy balls
  • Building blocks + legos
  • Fashion jewelry
  • Hacky sacks
  • Keychains
  • Matchbox cars
  • Miniature farm animals
  • And much more

Once kids collect all the toys they want, they’ll receive a personalized bag or box (depending on size). They can decorate their box on the store’s large craft table.

After taking home their goodies, they can bring them back and exchange them for new items (at a discounted rate, too!)

Meanwhile, parents can enjoy coffee and treats in the lounge.

Goodie boxes range from $7 to $35.

The Leavens also intend to host birthday parties and other celebrations where kids can build and decorate boxes and enjoy other fun party games.
