Dr. Vlada Groysman started Cahaba Dermatology in Hoover eleven years ago and has never looked back.

Cahaba Dermatology continues to thrive with locations in Hoover and Tuscaloosa (plus one coming soon to Cahaba Heights!). We spoke with the expert herself to learn her secrets for keeping your skin in tip-top shape.

Meet Dr. Vlada Groysman, Founder of Cahaba Dermatology

(Cahaba Dermatology)
Dr. Groysman has been working in dermatology for over 17 years. (Cahaba Dermatology)

Dr. Groysman always wanted to be a physician and dreamed of a career where she could help people.

“My dad was a cardiologist and took me to the hospital with him all the time. I loved that he made a difference in his patients’ lives and I knew I wanted to do the same.

I was also interested in art, sculpture and symmetry. Dermatology was the perfect field for me since it encompassed my love of medicine, art and procedures.”

Outside of practicing dermatology, Dr. Groysman enjoys spending time with her husband Joel, her children Naomi and Jonathan, her dogs Snickers and Milo, and loves traveling, cooking and doing yoga.

She opened Cahaba Dermatology in 2012, fulfilling her vision of a complete practice that would provide medical, cosmetic and surgical dermatology with its own in-house research department.

Take a look at some of Dr. Groysman’s accomplishments:

  • She’s completed over 40 research trials for numerous dermatologic conditions.
  • She has multiple publications in the field of dermatology.
  • She’s served as a speaker at many National Conferences on the topic of women’s health, lichen planus and lichen sclerosus.

All that to say—we’re definitely listening to Dr. Groysman when it comes to skin health.

1. Use sunscreen + get regular skin checks

Dr. Groysman’s biggest tip for healthy skin is to wear sunscreen every day of the year.

Her recommendation: a mineral-based sunscreen with SPF 30 in the winter and SPF 45 in the summer.

“I wish people knew how important it is to protect your skin from the sun. It doesn’t mean stopping all your favorite outdoor activities. It means enjoying them with proper sun protection and sun-protective clothing.”

Dr. Groysman also recommends:

  • checking your skin for abnormal growth of spots regularly
  • annual full body exams (essential to your skin’s health)

2. Start (slowly) using retinol

If you’re looking to take the next step in your skincare routine, retinol products are great for enhancing skin tone and texture while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

“Retinol products are amazing for skin turnover, acne and pore size. You can start slowly using retinol products several times a week and increase usage as tolerated.”

The experts at Cahaba Derm can teach you how to build retinol + other products into your routine.

3. Get regular facials + peels

According to Dr. Groysman, getting regular facials and quarterly chemical peels will keep your skin healthy and glowing.

Cahaba Dermatology offers several variations of these services and their highly-trained professionals can help you choose which ones will get you the best results.

4. Consider laser services

The word ‘lasers’ may sound daunting (or like something you want nowhere near your face), but they’re actually super beneficial for your skin.

Plus, laser services are usually pretty quick and cause minimal pain.

“We have many ablative and non-ablative lasers in our practice that increase collagen and help rejuvenate the appearance of your skin.

Start getting lasers at the first sign of sun damage, texture changes and discoloration.”

5. Don’t be afraid of injectables

As the most popular cosmetic skin services at Cahaba Dermatology, neurotoxins such as Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are a great way to rejuvenate your appearance.

“When done properly by a dermatologist with extensive medical and cosmetic training, injectables are a safe way to enhance your appearance and boost your confidence.”
