Great news for Birmingham! New homes built in North Titusville by Navigate Affordable Housing Partners were recently awarded the 2024 High-Performance Affordable Housing Award from the Structural Insulated Panel Association (SIPA). Read on to learn more about these homes.

Honored for creating quality affordable housing choices in Birmingham

Headquartered in Birmingham, Navigate Affordable Housing Partners is a local nonprofit that is working to create quality livable housing choices for communities at an affordable price.

For years, Navigate has worked to create affordable homes in North Titusville. Back in 2022, Navigate worked with Alabama Power and Design Initiative to build Live on 1st—a collection of three state-of-the-art and energy-efficient modular homes designed specifically for families making 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

Yesterday, Navigate announced that one of their projects—new homes in the Goldwire Heights subdivision of Titusville—was the recipient of the SIPA’s 2024 High-Performance Affordable Housing Award.

“Navigate is dedicated to creating high-performance affordable homes and we are excited to be recognized by the Structural Insulated Panel Association for our work. The Goldwire homes are not only creating much-needed housing in a low-income community, but are delivering on our commitment to keep homes affordable by lowering energy costs while increasing comfort.”

Matthew Churnock, Planning and Development Coordinator, Navigate Affordable Housing Partners

To boost the homes’ sustainable, energy-efficient design, Navigate incorporated Structurally-Insulated Panels (SIPs), an innovative building method that reduced construction costs and enhanced long-term affordability.

The award noted that Navigate’s “innovative approach not only reduced construction time but also delivered a high-performance shell, ensuring low energy bills for its future low-income residents.”
