New affordable housing complex for seniors coming to Birmingham area

Construction on a new affordable housing complex for seniors is set to begin soon, according to a press release from United Bank. Read on to learn more about The Villas at York.

Today, United Bank—a $1.3 billion financial holding company that serves Southwest Alabama and Northwest Florida—announced that it is providing $700,000 in soft financing to Vantage Development for the construction of The Villas at York, an affordable housing complex for seniors in the Birmingham area.

Vantage Development has developed several senior living facilities, apartment complexes and single-family homes in the Southeast, including multiple in Alabama.

Once completed The Villas at York will offer 52 one- and two-bedroom units of affordable housing options for seniors, with amenities like:

  • Laundry facility
  • Clubhouse
  • Community center
  • Covered bus shelter
  • Storm shelter
  • Gazebo
  • A covered picnic pavilion
  • A computer center

The development was discussed during a 2023 meeting of the Jefferson County Planning & Zoning Commission.

Construction on The Villas at York is expected to begin in February.
