Why does Mobile love MoonPies?

World's largets Moon Pie, over Mobile

Originally made by Chattanooga Bakery in Chattanooga, Tennesee, MoonPies were first thrown from Mardi Gras parade floats in Mobile in 1952 and have been the city’s favorite “throw” ever since.

Fun fact—Mobile consumes more than 4 million MoonPies annually. Wow, that’s a LOT of MoonPies.

The first MoonPie Over Mobile celebration was held in 2008 and was the idea of Mobile City Councilman Fred Richardson.

Richardson is now the Honorary Chairman of MoonPie Over Mobile, assists with the planning and execution of this annual celebration and leads the Second Line Parade every New Year’s Eve. Talk about a full-circle moment.

Don’t forget, Mobile is only a 4 hour drive from Birmingham!
