Did you know that because of Coca-Cola, Santa Claus is the big, jolly guy in red that we all know and love today?
It’s true—and you can see him at the upcoming Holiday Caravan stops around Birmingham this holiday season. Keep scrolling for all you need to know.
Coca-Cola reshaped Santa’s image in 1931
Before 1931, there were many depictions of Santa. The different impressions from around the world included a tall, skinny man or even a spooky-looking elf.
It was not until Coca-Cola commissioned artist Haddon Sundblom to paint Santa for the company’s Christmas advertising that the previous depictions of Santa were outbid.
Sundblom created a warm, happy character with rosy cheeks, a white beard and twinkling eyes. The image that first comes to your mind when someone says “Santa Claus.”

What can I expect at the Holiday Caravan?
Loaded with holiday gifts, delicious Coca‑Cola products and even Santa himself, The Coca‑Cola Holiday Caravan is bringing a taste of the holidays to The Magic City.
Bring your friends, family and everyone you know to these local neighborhood stops. You can try some tasty products (like the seasonal Winter Spiced Cranberry Sprite) and get a free holiday photo taken.
Another fun part—you can share your photos with Santa on social media using #CocaColaCaravan.
