Happy Monday, Birmingham—get ready to start the new week with buzzy news around town. Four new businesses (including a slider restaurant + sneaker shop) are headed to The Magic City, and we’re saying a sad goodbye to three others. Let’s take a look.

1. SLIDE Cafe

You already know Chef Raquel Ervin, the mastermind behind SMOKE Bistro in downtown Birmingham, dishing out a fancy twist on soul food with a barbecue vibe. Now, get this—she’s rolling out SLIDE cafe downtown! It’s all about killer sliders, gourmet sides and signature salads.

2. Solace

Get ready to up your sneaker game, Leeds! Right across from Rue 21 at The Shops of Grand River, you’ll find the newest sneaker shop in town—Solace. Think Nike Dunks, Jordan’s and Yeezy—they’ve got all the latest, trendiest kicks.

3. Walk-On’s

Sports fans, listen up! Walk On’s in Trussville is your new go-to spot to cheer on your favorite teams. Kick back, relax and dive into some seriously good scratch-made dishes. Oh, and did I mention they’ve got wall-to-wall TVs? It’s like a sports paradise in there. Plus—they’ve got craft beers and cocktails to keep the good times flowing.

4. Win Wings

Big news, Pelham! There’s a new wing shop on the block. Win Wings just opened its doors on Pelham Parkway, and they’re dishing out wings, hibachi, seafood and more for lunch and dinner.

1. What’s On Second

The quirky Birmingham shop will be closing its doors by the end of December. Steve Higabotham, the owner of What’s On Second—passed away right before Thanksgiving. If you’re looking to help out his family, think about grabbing a Christmas gift from there.

2. The Strand

Baba Java’s Montevallo spot at The Strand is closing on December 9. Swing by The Strand on December 8 and 9 for BOGO drinks as a farewell. Plus, don’t worry about unused gift cards—the Hoover location will honor any remaining balance.

3. Baumhower’s Victory Grille

The Lee Branch location of Baumhower Victory Grille has closed. The popular sports bar, which opened in the mid-2000s, was one of the first tenants at the Lee Branch development off Highway 280 in Hoover.
