Bitty & Beau’s Coffee to open in Homewood, November 11
Reading time: 2 minutes
This weekend, Bitty and Beau’s Coffee celebrated its upcoming grand opening in Homewood with an apron ceremony. The new coffee shop will open November 11 at 1625 Oxmoor Road across from Homewood Central Park.
Coffee for a cause comes to Birmingham
Bitty & Beau’s isn’t your typical coffee shop. Founders Amy and Ben Wright are the parents of four children— Lillie, Emma Grace, Beau and Bitty. Lillie was born with autism and Bitty and Beau were born with Down syndrome.
Bitty & Beau’s Coffee is what they call “a human rights movement disguised as a coffee shop” that seeks to create a career path for people with disabilities to become more valued and included in their community. In 2016, they opened their first shop in Wilmington, North Carolina, and have now expanded to 25 locations across 12 states.
This November, as Amy Wright told Bham Now, they’re excited to continue their mission in Birmingham.
“The opening of Bitty and Beau’s Coffee Birmingham isn’t just about serving great coffee; it’s about changing the way people see people with disabilities. We believe that, by shining a spotlight on the talents of our employees, we can inspire other businesses in the community to recognize the value of hiring individuals with disabilities. Their unique perspectives, dedication and strong work ethic are assets that can enrich any workplace.
We can’t wait to open our doors on Saturday, November, 11 and hope the Birmingham community will join us for the celebration.”
