3 affordable ways you can get healthy + have fun at City Walk Bham this fall

If you’ve been to City Walk Bham, you know it’s a great place to play, but you may not know it’s also a convenient spot to get healthy. City Walk Bham has partnered with two organizations on offerings to improve the community’s health, plus another group that works with youth. Keep reading to find out how you can get involved.
Meet City Walk Bham’s newest partners helping you get healthy + have fun
This fall, City Walk Bham is launching three key partnerships as a way to improve quality of life and help people get healthy in the surrounding communities.
These are:
- Alabama Regional Medical Services (ARMS): Their Mobile Clinic provides accessible + affordable basic medical services and referrals.
- Live Healthsmart Alabama (UAB): The Mobile Market offers affordable fresh produce, pantry items + healthy eating education.
- Project EMS: This group offers educational opportunities, mentorships + future-planning support to youth from middle school to college students. They also bring families together for bonding experiences like movie nights, community cleanup days + more.
Other programs to look out for include Askate (Skating with with Kids through Acceptance, Therapy and Education) and the Birmingham Mobile Library—both will be back in the spring of 2024.

1. The ARMS Mobile Clinic provides accessible + affordable healthcare
Healthcare at City Walk Bham with ARMS (Nathan Watson / Bham Now)
- What: A biweekly mobile health clinic offering affordable health services, including:
- Basic health screenings + services, including weekly COVID + HIV screenings
- Vaccinations on select dates
- Referrals for OB/Gyn, behavioral health, pediatric + dental services
- When: Monthly, 1st + 3rd Fridays, 1-4PM
- Where: City Walk Bham playground parking lot, Orange Block, Enter at 24th St N Gate
- Who: Open to everyone, with a special invitation to neighboring communities
- Cost: All insurance accepted; sliding scale for uninsured patients, with some qualifying for no-cost, grant-funded care
Whether you live close to City Walk Bham or anywhere in the metro area, you’re welcome to use this service. For example, if you’re a new employee who has a gap in insurance, this is a great way to get medical care until your plan kicks in.
Medical services are provided by a licensed physician or nurse practitioner. Appointments are not necessary—walk-ins welcome.

2. Check out Live Healthsmart Alabama (UAB)’s Mobile Market
- What: The Mobile Market is filled with fresh produce + a selection of pantry staples, proteins + dairy. This grocery store on wheels has everything you need to cook (and eat) nutritious food at an affordable price.
- When: Every other Wednesday, 3:30-5:30PM
- Where: City Walk Bham playground parking lot, Orange Block, Enter at 24th St N Gate
- Who: All are welcome
- Cost: Purchasing on-site is easy—simply present cash, credit, debit or your EBT card at checkout. For every dollar you spend (up to $20) with your EBT card, you will earn a Double Buck that can be used on your next purchase of fresh produce at the Mobile Market.

3. Come out + have fun with Project EMS
Project EMS motivates and supports under-resourced students from multiple socioeconomic demographics on their journey towards a successful academic education. Their events at City Walk Bham are open to students, their families and the community.
Here are just a few of the events they have coming up—be sure to sign up beforehand:
- October 27: Arts + Brews, 6-8PM, City Walk Social/Bier Garden (Yellow Block) on 23rd St N (Parking available at The Barkery)
- October 28: E-recycling drive-through, 11AM-3PM, City Walk Bham Blue Block/15th Street N + 9th Ave N—safely dispose of old or unused tech while staying in your car.
- October 29:
- Park cleanup + beautification, 2-3PM, Welcome Center (Green Block) at 2001 9th Ave N
- Movie in the park: Coco, 7-9PM, Lake Lawn (Orange Block), 24th Street N (parking in the CWB Playground Parking Lot)
