1. Shred Day

  • What: Hoover residents who have documents they want shredded can bring them to the Hoover Public Library parking lot. There is a limit of six banker-sized boxes per person.
  • When: Friday, October 20 | 9AM-1PM
  • Where: Hoover Public Library
  • Cost: Free admission

2. So So Spiffy Shopping Shindig

  • What: Shop gorgeous home necessities up to 60% off, such as table runners, couches, ottomans, decor and more.
  • When: Friday, October 20, 12-6PM + Saturday, October 21, 10AM-4PM

  • Cost: Free admission

3. Wicked and Weird Halloween Costume Contest

  • What: Come out in your most creative costume for a night of fun, food, drinks and dancing to live jazz music—all to support Community on the Rise’s mission to offer safe housing, meaningful employment and identity document recovery for survivors of homelessness.
  • When: Friday, October 20 | 6:30-11PM
  • Where: Red Mountain Theatre
  • Cost: $75

4. Kid One Transport Trick or Trot 5K

  • What: Stop by this annual Trick or Trot 5K which includes a costume contest and even a post-race beverage. The race supports Kid One Transport’s mission of transporting Alabama’s vulnerable children and expectant mothers to essential healthcare including doctor appointments and more.
  • When: Saturday, October 21 | 8-10AM
  • Where: Back Forty Brewing
  • Cost: $35

5. The Block Party

  • What: Join McWane Science Center and their Hip Hop friends and experts to explore the impact of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) on the creation of Hip Hop and how it’s an incredible tool for STEM education and inspiration. 
  • When: Saturday, October 21 | 10AM-4PM
  • Where: McWane Science Center
  • Cost: Included in the price of admission

6. Pet Day Adoption event with Two by Two Animal Rescue

  • What: Two by Two Rescue will have adorable costumed fur-babies seeking their perfect fur-ever home. Come by to meet your new trick-or-treating bestie or just come by for a few puppy snuggles and kisses. Donations are welcome.
  • When: Saturday, October 21 | 11AM-2PM
  • Where: University Pickers
  • Cost: Free admission

7. Asbury’s Trunk or Treat

  • What: Check out almost 50 decorated trunks, from cute to silly to clever. You’ll also get to dig-in to some of Birmingham’s greatest food trucks like Eugene’s Hot Chicken, Boho Tea and more.
  • When: Sunday, October 22 | 4-6PM
  • Where: Asbury United Methodist Church (by soccer fields)
  • Cost: Free admission

8. 2023 Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Heart of Alabama

  • What: Join in on this great event benefitting the support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. This is a rain or shine event and each registered participant will receive a Promise Garden flower where they can choose the color that best represents their connection to the disease.
  • When: Sunday, October 22 | 1PM
  • Where: Sloss Furnaces
  • Register here | Registration is free, but fundraising is encouraged

9. Pink up the Pace 5K & Fun Run

  • What: Lace-up your sneakers to raise funds and awareness for local, life-saving breast cancer research at the 6th annual Pink Up the Pace 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run.
  • When: Sunday, October 22 | 1-5PM
  • Where: Crestline Field at Crestline Elementary School
  • Cost: $35 for adults (ages 13+), $25 for children (ages 4-12)
  • Online registration ended, in-person registration begins day of event.
