Birmingham — have you dropped your phone or laptop lately? According to the tech care company Asurion® and tech repair retailer uBreakiFix we do it a lot, ranking The Magic City the 6th clumsiest city in America.

This week, the group released their second annual  Clumsiest Cities in America report. Now, we’ve got to ask… how do you come up with such a ranking?

Here is how they ran the numbers:

  • Ranked metro areas for  highest  per-capita Asurion protection plan phone breakage claims
  • Ranked metro areas for highest device repairs at its network of uBreakiFix stores
  • Ranking cities with the most personal injury lawyers and orthopedic surgeons per-capita
  • Tapped Google trends data surrounding the frequency of online searches for phrases like “I think I sprained my ankle” or “I dropped my phone, and the screen is cracked.”

Top 10 Clumsiest Metro Areas

Using these categories, how did the rest of America do?

Here is the top ten, with a little unscientific and snarky commentary:

  1. New Orleans — Our guess why they are the national leader at stumbling? Two words… Bourbon Street
  2. Rochester, NY — We can imagine they had an icy winter
  3. Raleigh, NC— There must be something about state capitals. Including Raleigh, 4 of the 10 Clumsiest Cities, Atlanta (4), Richmond (7) and Hartford CT.(9) are off-kilter.

Fresno CA snuck in at number 5. Then you have Birmingham coming in 6th. Rounding out the list was Jacksonville at #8 and Louisville, KY at #10

Most Graceful Cities in the U.S.

On the other end of the list, the cities that kept on their feet and didn’t drop their electronics were called the “most graceful cities.”

Topping the list was Seattle, followed by Providence, RI, New York City, Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Chicago, Miami and Tucson.

Dave Barbuto, CEO of uBreakiFix by Asurion, perhaps summed up the report best in a  news release.

“Accidents happen – nobody knows that better than our repair techs on the frontlines fixing broken phones, laptops, tablets.”

Do you think they got the Clumsiest or Graceful cities list right?
