At the end of the month, we love reflecting—especially on the food we indulged in. This August, we tried some new spots and revisited some classic favorites. Here are the best things we ate this month in Birmingham.

1. Caprese Salad from Pizza Grace

“The best flavors of summer all came out with the rich ripe tomato, basil, pesto, fresh mozzarella and drizzle of oil.”

Cindy Martin, President/CEO

2. BYO Sandwich from The Garage

“The Garage is one of my all-time favorite spots in Birmingham. The atmosphere is amazing with the patio’s greenery and jungle vibes. Plus, their homemade sandwiches are the best in town (in my opinion)—with the best pickles served on the side. Enjoyed with a Modelo with lime.”

Julia-Rae Hanson, Content Producer

3. Chicken Tender Plate from Waldo’s Chicken + Beer

You can’t go wrong with Waldo’s Chicken and Beer. (Jacob Blankenship / Bham Now)

“Waldo’s Chicken and Beer is like savoring a crispy Southern symphony that always hits the right notes. It’s my top-notch temptation!”

Jacob Blankenship, Channel Analyst/Photographer

4. Tasty Salad with Grilled Chicken from Tasty Town

“This was the perfect hot summer Sunday lunch—fresh, hearty and flavorful.”

5. Taco Salad from Moss Rock Tacos + Tequila

Moss Rock doesn’t disappoint. (Gabi Hembree-Lee / Business Development Manager)

“Their taco salad includes a delish pineapple mango salsa that adds a nice brightness to the dish, especially on these hot Alabama days! I also love the smokiness of their fire-roasted salsa.

My mom had the chicken chimi rolls and was a fan (she’s a picky eater, too!). Their prickly pear margarita, also in the photo, always hits the spot.”

Gabi Hembree-Lee, Business Development Manager

6. Red Thunder Pizza from Bell Peppers

Bell Peppers’ pizza is healthier-than-usual, but still has lots of flavor. (JeVante Shropshire / Bham Now)

“This was one of the most flavorful and tastiest pizzas I’ve ever had. It’s a lower-calorie pizza with turkey meat, but you couldn’t even tell. I most definitely will get this again, and I’m ready to try other menu items.”

JeVante Shropshire, Content Producer/Air Traffic Controller

7. Mac n’ Cheese from Trattoria Zaza

You can’t say no to Trattoria Zaza’s mac n’ cheese. (Lauryn Stinson / Bham Now)

“Their mac is probably the best I’ve had in Birmingham, and I’d eat it every day if I could. Plus, the workers are really nice!”

Lauryn Stinson, Content Producer

8. Blueberry Cheesecake from Pizza Grace

Finishing off the list is something sweet from Pizza Grace. (Bham Now)

“It was the best cheesecake I’ve had in a while! It was rich and fruity but not too much. I would eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I could.”
