Located on Morris Avenue—one of Birmingham’s most beautiful historic streets—Carrigan’s Public House has been a fan-favorite bar and gastropub for nearly a decade. Opened in 2013 by local entrepreneur David Carrigan, Carrigan’s Public House made a name for itself with its casual atmosphere, wide variety of drinks and delectable food menu—not to mention their incredible weekly specials!

Over the past decade, Carrigan’s has seen downtown Birmingham grow tremendously and has received an outpouring of support from the community. In honor of this support, the Carrigan’s team has decided to return the favor by finding a new way to give back—thus, Carrigan’s Philanthropub.

As a philanthropub, Carrigan’s will give back to the community in two main ways:

  • Directly supporting local philanthropic organizations by donating all profits to a spotlighted charity, rotating monthly.
  • Indirectly, by offering free use of Carrigan’s private event space to events and partnerships with community-focused groups.

In addition, Carrigan’s will begin offering gift cards on their website; profits will be donated to their rotating spotlighted charity.

“Our hope is to engage the community in a new way: to pull people together and support each other. We want to financially support the people and organizations in our community that spend their time and effort helping others and we also want to be a place where people of all variety and viewpoints can come together and be in the same space and have a good time.”

Philanthropy has been a priority for Carrigan’s since day one. Over the years, the Carrigan’s team has participated in various charitable events—including Negroni Week and Old Fashioned Week—and has donated funds to the Exceptional Foundation Chili Cook-off. Earlier this year, Carrigan’s hosted the inaugural Big Birmingham Burger and Bourbon Bash 2023—a burger cooking competition benefitting the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama.

We’re grateful to Carrigan’s Public House for their commitment to a Philanthropub model through their inaugural Burger Competition. No one should have to go hungry, and funds from this creative event provided over 15,000 meals for our neighbors facing hunger right here in Central Alabama.”

Carrigan’s Public House will officially make the change to a Philanthropub during their 10-Year Anniversary party on Saturday, August 26—and you’re invited! Guests can expect delectable dishes, delicious drinks and so much more. Plus, the Carrigan’s team will have a suggestion box for which non-profit and community-driven organizations the community wants them to support.

“We have been blessed by a strong following and support from the community for the past 10 years and we are ready to give something back. Our 10th Anniversary is coming up in a couple of weeks and we thought that would be a really great way to celebrate the city.”
