OPEN: Taj India is now open in the former Bogue’s building
The wait is over for fans of this long-time Birmingham favorite– Taj India has reopened at their new home on Clairmont Avenue.
The Indian restaurant operated by Aman and Navneet Judge announced its relocation to the Lakeview District this summer after nearly three decades in Highland Plaza.
Out with the old, in with the new
Taj India, one of the oldest Indian restaurants in the state, has been operating at Highland Plaza since the mid-1990s. In January, the Birmingham City Council voted to rezone the shopping center with plans to demolish and replace it with a mixed-use development. The plan is to build complex featuring apartments, retail and office space.
As a result, Taj India and other residents of Highland Plaza searched for a new home. Highland Package has already moved out and opened at their new location, 109 20th St. S.
Taj India’s new home
Taj India’s new location is the former home of Bogue’s, a diner that opened in 1938 and operated until its closure in 2022. The restaurant opened by Pat and Mildred Bogue was a favorite of many Birmingham residents for over 80 years.
Considering how iconic the Bogue’s building is, it’s only appropriate for another beloved Birmingham restaurant to take its place. You can visit Taj India now at 3120 Clairmont Ave S.
