Red, white + BOOM: 9 places to watch fireworks this 4th of July holiday in Birmingham

The 4th of July is just around the corner, and there’s plenty going on in The Magic City. From firework shows to baseball games, we rounded up some of the best spots to celebrate this Independence Day in Birmingham.

1. Birmingham Barons Independence Day Celebrations

Baseball fans, this one’s for you. Don’t miss the Barons vs. Trash Pandas games July 2 + 3, featuring a post-game fireworks show both nights. They are also offering a special ticket to the Independence Ballroom Buffet where guests can enjoy burgers, hot dogs, drinks and more.

2. Thunder on the Mountain

It wouldn’t be 4th of July in Birmingham without Thunder on the Mountain. One of the city’s biggest Independence Day celebrations, 2,500 shells and effects will light up Vulcan and the sky above him at 9PM.

The show will also feature a soundtrack timed and choreographed to the firework display, available to tune in on most all local stations such as 102.5 The Bull, 103.1 The Vulcan, 103.7 The Q, Magic 96.5 and more.

3. Independence Day 1776 at American Village

It’s 4th of July at American Village, and they’re going big. All day, there will be music, games, and encounters with patriots of the past including George and Martha Washington, Alexander and Eliza Hamilton, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and more. The day will also include a reenactment of the battle at Concord Bridge and a fireworks show at 9PM. With plenty of activities, food trucks and hand-made products for sale, this is a celebration you won’t want to miss.

4. Fire on the Water

Hosted by the City of Pelham at Oak Mountain State Park, don’t miss this stellar fireworks show July 3. Featuring wakeboarding entertainment from Flip Side Watersports at 5PM and all-night music from DJ Blaze Entertainment, this event is the perfect way to spend your day. Food and drinks will begin at 5PM and fireworks at 9PM, so come out and get ready for a show!

5. 4th of July Family Festival at Railroad Park

Presented by UAB Callahan Eye, come out to Railroad Park for live music, food trucks, kid’s activities and more. Find a spot to hang out and get a great view of the fireworks at Vulcan with entertainment from Lamont Landers Band, Southland Soul and DJ CJ “tha Sticman”. Gates open at 4PM, so make sure you secure your spot to this free event.

6. Trussville Freedom Celebration

Held in historic downtown Trussville, this free event will feature carnival games, food trucks and fun. The celebration begins at 5PM with music from Act of Congress at 7:30PM and fireworks at 9PM.

7. 4th at Forge

Support a serious cause and benefit Forge Breast Cancer Survivor Center this year at 4th at Forge. Bring your lawn chair and come hang out July 4th at 7PM for food, fun, and a front-row seat to Thunder on the Mountain.

8. City of Alabaster Fireworks Show 2023

This Saturday, July 1, catch the annual Alabaster fireworks show at Thompson High School. Featuring food trucks, bounce houses, games, music and more– this holiday event is fun for the whole family.

9. Old Town Helena 4th of July Celebration

Come out to Helena for an evening of fun, music and lights. This free event will feature a performance by Telluride and a stunning fireworks display.
