Hop City named among best beer shops of 2023
Hop City Beer & Wine—located in Birmingham’s Pepper Place— was recently named one of the best beer shops of 2023 by Wine Enthusiast Magazine.

Wine Enthusiast loves Hop City
The list was published by Wine Enthusiast Magazine, a wine magazine that offers valuable information about wine, beer and spirits, across the U.S.
In fact, this isn’t the first time they’ve praised Hop City’s specialty beer selection. Last year, Bham Now reported that Hop City was ranked among the best beer shops in the U.S. by Wine Enthusiast.
Best of 2023, according to beer pros
A great beer shop isn’t just about having the most to choose from. The best beer shops, according to Wine Enthusiast, are those that pay attention to diverse selection, offer proper cooler space and keep an eye on freshness dates.
To rank beer shops across the U.S., they also consulted with the pros who know a thing or two about beer, including Luke Garner, director of contracting operations at TrimTab Brewing.
“Kraig Torres, their CEO, and Stacey Chappel, the general manager at the Birmingham location, have done an excellent job on curating a large selection of premium and hard to find beers. [They have also built] a culture of beer and wine nerds who really enjoy helping people discover new brands and producers.”

Garner also told Wine Enthusiast that he’s happy to recommend Hop City to people because they’ll receive “inviting, friendly, passionate and informative” service, something he says is “not always easy in our world where snobbery can run amok.”
