We asked Gen Z’ers what they want in a jobโ€”here’s what they said

As the years go by, more and more Gen Z’ers are filling positions at companies in Birmingham and all over the world. But what do Gen Z’ers look for in a job? We polled our audience on LinkedIn and Instagram to learn moreโ€”keep reading to see the results!

1. What aspect of your job is most important to you?

After 348 votes from our LinkedIn audience, most people voted saying they look for a job with work they enjoy. The next most voted for was money, rounding in at 32%.

We also polled our Instagram audience. Out of 217 votes, here’s what Gen Z said about what’s most important to them at their job:

  • Money: 34%
  • Doing work I enjoy: 41%
  • Hybrid home/office: 21%
  • Other: 5%

2. Where are you in your job life?

Out of the 208 votes on LinkedIn, most Gen Z’ers don’t want to leave their company. Instead, they’re looking to grow in their workplace.

Also, we posted an Instagram poll asking asked Gen Z where they are in their job life. With 136 votes, Gen Z’ers said that they are:

  • Happy where I am: 30%
  • Looking to grow at my current company: 22%
  • Passively looking for a new job: 32%
  • Actively looking for a new job: 16%

3. What strategies do you use to retain Gen Z employees?

This question went out to the Birmingham employers. Flexibility may be the key to retaining Gen Z employees, with almost half of the 74 voters acknowledging a flexible schedule and location is the way to go.
