The Junior League of Birmingham (JLB) recently celebrated 100 years of service in The Magic City. We attended their Centennial Gala and had the chance to hear from some amazing speakers and meet the incredible women that make up the Junior League. Missed it? Keep reading for an exclusive look at the centennial celebration.
100 years of service and leadership
A fun crowd came out to celebrate the JLB making a difference in Birmingham by hearing from the organization’s leaders and of course, mingling and dancing the night away.
During the event, many JLB community partners paid tribute to the tremendous impact and lasting legacy the JLB has made within their organization and throughout the community. Those partners included representatives from the City of Birmingham (City Councilor Crystal Smitherman), The Literacy Council of Central Alabama, United Way and Grace Klein Community.
For over 100 years, the Junior League of Birmingham (JLB) has been a positive force for change in Jefferson County. Every year, more than 2,000 volunteers collectively give more than 55,000 hours of community service to the Birmingham community.
Just this past year, the JLB volunteered 40,000 hours and gave close to $400,000 in direct contributions to local nonprofits like these:
- Birmingham Talks
- Founders Place at St. Luke’s
- Meals on Wheels
- STAIR of Birmingham
- More
