Birmingham’s Exceptional Foundation founded in 1993 is located in central Homewood. The foundation serves people with special needs in the Birmingham area by fostering social and recreational skills for their members through youth and adult programs. Their exceptional work has gotten their volleyball team to the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games.

The Exceptional Foundation Volleyball Team

The Exceptional Foundation’s volleyball team has been working to get to this point and has been training for the Special Olympics since May. The 2022 Special Olympics USA Games has been a point of excitement for the volleyball team.

The team held joint practices with Mountain Brook High School volleyball team to help them become acclimated to playing against competition again after not being able to do with other schools due to COVID.

“Our players have worked extremely hard to get to this point. We have been playing volleyball competitively for over 20 years, so this experience was definitely hard-earned. We’ve put in countless practice hours and are extremely grateful to the Mountain Brook High School team for devoting so much time to working with us. Their help has been invaluable.”
