Now Leasing: Common at The Frank
Say hello to Common at The Frank, the newest apartment community to begin leasing in downtown Birmingham. Located inside a redeveloped, historic building in Downtown Birmingham, Common at The Frank will feature 180 units of both studio and one-bedroom apartments across 10 stories.
“At Common at The Frank, your apartment doesn’t end at your front door — you’ll enjoy amenity spaces designed for comfort, convenience, and community. On the first floor, you’ll find a furnished courtyard with sky-light and access to the building’s bar. Enjoy your morning coffee in the lounge area, or head downstairs for your happiest hour yet. Hop on the elevator to the rooftop clubroom, where you’ll find a full kitchen, dining room area, and turfed lounge area — the perfect spot to host a game night with friends, or meet other Common members. Even your furry friend has a chance to build community at the turfed dog run and dog washing station! Another bonus? You’ll save money (and time!) on an expensive gym membership when you take advantage of the indoor and outdoor gym.”
Common at The Frank
Common at The Frank marks the first project between local planing and development firm Orchestra Partners and global residential manager Common.
“As our brand continues to grow across the world, Common is seeing first-hand how dynamic cities like Birmingham become sought-after destinations for the next generation to find attainable housing. I’m so thrilled to work with Orchestra Partners to bring this incredible adaptive reuse project to life and help promote their mission in Alabama. This is only the beginning for Common in Birmingham, and we’re looking forward to contributing to the future of this city.”

About The Frank
Located on the northeast corner of 20th Street and 2nd Avenue North, The Frank was originally constructed in 1903 as the First National Bank Building in Birmingham. In fact, the 10-story building was one of Birmingham’s earliest skyscrapers.
In recent years, the building featured retail shops on its ground level, including a UPS Store and Trattoria Zaza. In 2018, Orchestra Partners began a redevelopment of the building and officially rebranded the property as The Frank.
Now, Common at the Frank will bring 180 new residential units to downtown Birmingham, as well as:
- An onsite restaurant
- A tenant lounge
- A roof deck
- A two-story outdoor terrace open to the public
“We’re very excited to begin our partnership with Common and start leasing at The Frank. This building has been a part of Birmingham’s history for more than 100 years, and we’re so happy to breathe new life and activity into it.”
Caroline Jenkins, Orchestra Partners Development Manager
