Pelham residents can soon enjoy delicious BBQ and more, thanks to Creekside BBQ Chef Eric Pippert and his business partner. The duo recently purchased the former Waffle House space near Oak Mountain Amphitheater, in order to house their new restaurant.

Creekside BBQ is backed by the expertise of Chef Eric Pippert, who is stepping into his first ownership role after spending most of his life in the restaurant industry. Before coming to the Birmingham area, Chef Pippert spent several years at restaurants in Nashville and Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Although the building was a Waffle House in a previous life, you’ll find no trace of the recognizable breakfast establishment now. Chef Pippert plans to have live music on their spacious outdoor patio, while the interior will boast new decor and even a 4,000-pound smoker, picked up from a closed Jim ‘N’ Nicks location in South Carolina.

“I want Creekside BBQ to be a place where people come to enjoy hanging out; we’re going to have local beers on tap, TV’s for you to watch the game, an outdoor patio and—of course—great food. I don’t want to just be some run-of-the-mill barbeque joint. I want people to come here and taste that there is passion in what we do.”

With his diverse background in food service, Chef Pippert plans to combine different aspects of his favorite BBQ styles into his own unique offering.

“My dishes pull from a lot of cooking styles that I really admire. I like to cook my pulled pork Carolina-style, because I think they do it really well. For ribs, I love the way they do it in Memphis, dry-rub. I like to smoke my chicken and hit it with Alabama White Sauce at the end—I think that’s the right fit.”
