NEW OPENING! BLUEROOT’s Flagship restaurant opens at Pepper Place

Have you been looking for fast, healthy food options in downtown Birmingham? Well, look no further. Beloved local restaurant BLUEROOT Co. has just opened a new location in Pepper Place, and we have all the details!

The beginning of BLUEROOT

Not familiar with BLUEROOT Co.? Owner Jennifer Ryan founded the restaurant after noticing limited access to quick & healthy food options in Alabama. She loved the fine dining scene in the city but thought it could use more nutritious options.

So, she decided to start her own restaurant to fulfill that need.

Ryan combined locally sourced ingredients with the cooking skills Chef Robin Bashinsky, a two-time James Beard award-winner, to bring the menu to life. 

The brand’s first appearance was in spring 2019, at Pepper Place Market. In summer 2020, BLUEROOT Co. opened its walk-up window location in Mountain Brook Village.

BLUEROOT’s new spot

BLUEROOT Co. officially opened its new flagship location on Tuesday, July 20. Located in Pepper Place, the new restaurant is thriving inside a renovated, 1,700 square-foot brick & mortar building. 

The wooden seating and tables were provided by Magic City Woodworks. There is a decorative wall with real plants that were provided from Botanica Houseplant Shops in Birmingham.

The healthy, plant-forward eatery also added new menu items and indoor and outdoor seating.

BLUEROOT makes the market

Although the eatery planned to open in 2020, it was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, now they’re back and better than ever! 

You can expect over 6 new menu options along with their classic signature salads, grain bowls, breakfast bites and snacks— I’d go crazy without their ‘Not Your Mama’s Rice Crispy Treat’.

Ryan says she is thrilled to open the doors and fill the healthy food access gap for the community.

Today, BLUEROOT Co. will stay open later than normal to serve guests after the final session of Sunset Sweat hosted by MPower.

Sunset Sweat at Pepper Place is a summer community fitness class. It kicks off at 5:30PM— what’s better than a healthy snack after a great workout?
