Put BioGX on your radar. They’re a Birmingham-based molecular diagnostics company and they’re headed to their new space in Shelby County. Keep reading to learn more about this exciting move.
From Innovation Depot to Shelby County
Local company BioGX has called the startup incubator, Innovation Depot, home, but they’re ready to spread their wings and expand. They are a company that develops molecular products and applies molecular biology to medical tests in order to find the best, personalized treatments for individuals. In other words, they’re a science wiz.
BioGX bought a building on Valleydale Road in Shelby County that will serve as their corporate headquarters. The extra space will give them even more room to expand their research and development capabilities.
“While the company has been rapidly expanding its operations and looking for a new facility for over three years, the COVID-19 pandemic demanded we scale up our operations at breakneck speed to meet the global demand for our growing portfolio of products.”Michael Vickery, Ph.D., EVP and Chief Scientific Officer of BioGX
In order to make this important move, BioGX partnered up with local partners, 58 Inc. and the Birmingham Business Alliance to help strengthen the biotech in Shelby County, especially the Highway 280 corridor.
“The company’s decision to expand into Shelby County represents another milestone in our innovative economic development strategy. 58 Inc. has identified the biotech cluster as a target industry, and we look forward to working with our partners to market Shelby County as an attractive location for similar companies.”Paul Rogers, president of 58 Inc.
Bring on the jobs
You know what growth means? It means more job opportunities and that’s exactly what BioGX is bringing to Shelby County. The expansion will add 30 brand-new full-time employees to the company.
