Asbury United Methodist Church is rolling with the ever-changing punches of 2020. This year, they’ll be keeping the spirit of All Hallows’ Eve alive with an all-new event—a drive-through Halloween Parade. So don that spooky costume and buckle up for this exciting, candy-filled event on Sunday, October 25 from 4-6PM.

Then vs Now

In previous years, Asbury UMC has held an annual trunk-or-treat with games, prizes and lots and lots of candy. But, with social distancing still playing a serious role in our daily lives, Asbury has added some necessary updates to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Unlike previous trunk-or-treats, this year all attendees will stay in their cars for a drive-through-style Halloween Parade. Drive slowly because there will be lots to see from your window seat.

“Trunk or Treat is our favorite community event of the year. We love the smiles, the fellowship, the fun, and our community. But a traditional trunk or treat is just not a realistic option right now so we’re changing our format to a drive-thru style. All the love and effort we put into our past events are being poured into this year’s parade and  it’s going to be terrific—and as safe as possible!”

Angie Gongwer, Family Ministry Director, Asbury UMC

As with former years at Asbury UMC, there will still be a trunk-or-treat—just new and improved. Cars/trunks will sit along the parade route decorated to the nines in true trunk-or-treat fashion. Stop at each trunk to have candy delivered right to your car.

Bonus: free hot dog meals will be passed out while supplies last, so get there early and score some grub.

Masks and gloves will be required of all event volunteers.

Be Creative and Win Prizes

During all the Halloween fun, there is always time to grow your faith as a family. To support you in this mission, Asbury UMC is offering Faith-Builder Boxes.

Boxes are stocked with age-specific resources that teach and encourage interaction with God. Plus, they are just plain fun! Here’s a peek at what’s inside each box:

  • Recipes for families to create together
  • Information and invitations to be involved in Asbury’s upcoming monthly mission projects
  • A free book, “Prayers for Parents,” by Tiffany Rone
  • Preschool, elementary, middle and high school worksheets for kids that also guide parents in faith conversations

“It’s still a very strange time for families. Things are getting back to ‘normal,’ but we’re still, for the most part, spending a lot of time at home. Parents have to keep communicating, connecting and going—not to mention they’re the number one faith influencer in a child’s life. So, we want to support families with our Faith-Builder Boxes to encourage family togetherness.”

Angie Gongwer, Family Ministry Director, Asbury UMC

Faith-Builder Boxes are free and can be delivered right to your car during the Halloween Parade at Asbury UMC on Sunday, October 25 between 4-6PM. Be sure to register for a box in advance! Asbury custom builds boxes special for each registered family.
