Local and state colleges’ plans for Move-in Day and 2020 Fall Semester

As spring semesters come to an end and summer begins, many students are left wondering what’s in store for the 2020 fall semester. Hopefully, we can answer some of your burning questions with information from colleges throughout Alabama.

The following information is subject to change depending on the college or university. For more information, we’ve included links to each institution’s COVID-19 update page.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham

Move-in Day: August 22, 2020

On April 30th, UAB president Ray Watts gave an update on the 2020 Fall Semester. The university’s hope is to offer in-person instruction options in the fall.

Birmingham-Southern College

New Student Move-in Day: August 21, 2020

Returning Student Move-in Day: August 23, 2020

At this point in time, BSC is unsure of when the campus visits will reopen for prospective and first-year students. Currently, tours and events have been canceled.

So what about summer and fall orientation? Until further notice, BSC’s Summer Orientations are as scheduled. They will continue to monitor COVID-19 to determine if orientations will become virtual events.

Samford University

New Student Move-in Day: August 21, 2020

Returning Student Move-in Day: August 22-23, 2020

Boot up those computers, future Bull Dogs. Samford’s Bulldog Days Orientation 2020 is taking things virtual. Dates will remain the same.

Miles College has yet to announce any plans for the 2020 Fall Semester.

The University of Alabama

Early Arrival Move-in Day: August 5-7, 2020

Move-in Day: August 14-15, 2020

The University of Alabama is still planning to continue on-campus courses in Fall 2020. They are also reviewing the possibility of continuing in-person classes for the second summer term. This decision will be announced by the end of May.

Auburn University

Early Arrival Move-in Day: August 1-7, 2020

Move-in Day: August 13, 2020

It is unclear as to when or in what manner Auburn University will reopen for the 2020 Fall Semester.

The university is extending its operational modifications from the previously assigned May 9 end date to June 30, 2020. Summer classes will be remote and summer study abroad programs are canceled.

University of North Alabama

Early Arrival Move-in Day: July 30- August 9, 2020

Move-in Day: August 13-15, 2020

UNA officially announced its plans to reopen campus for the 2020 Fall Semester. Students and teachers will return to a classroom setting. The process will have a phased approach with adherence to social distancing and other wellness guidelines.

University of Montevallo

Move-in Day: August 21-23, 2020

The University of Montevallo is planning to resume in-person instruction for the 2020 Fall Semester. As they continue to monitor the situation, instructional changes will be communicated electronically.

Good news for recent Montevallo graduates! On August 7, 2020, the university hopes to be together again for an official graduation ceremony.

Huntingdon College

Move-in Day: August 6, 2020

Huntingdon announced that the Fall Semester will resume on August 10, 2020, with in-class instruction. This is two weeks prior to the original start to make sure the semester ends before Thanksgiving break.

USA is planning to reopen its campus and resume in-person classes for 2020 Fall Semester. The university continues to monitor the outbreak carefully with health and safety as the highest priority.

Troy University

Move-in Day: August 10, 2020

It was recently announced that Troy will reopen and resume standard work schedules on June 1. Students will be welcomed back to campus for in-class instruction in August 2020.

Troy is planning to celebrate spring and summer graduates with a commencement ceremony on July 24.

Alabama A&M University

Plans for the 2020 Fall Semester and move-in day are still TBD for Alabama A&M University.

There are currently no updates on the plans for ASU’s 2020 Fall Semester.

Jacksonville State University

Summer orientation and the 2020 Fall Semester is planned to proceed as normal. The university will continue to evaluate and keep students updated.

Jacksonville’s spring graduates will be able to celebrate their accomplishments over the course of several commencement ceremonies. They are scheduled for July 31-August 1 and each is dedicated to different fields of study.
