Although Nat King Cole himself is no longer with us, we can still enjoy his music as the ASO and Denzal Sinclaire explore some of the late musician’s most iconic pieces conducted by Chris Confessore. From “I’ve Got the World on a String” to “Mona Lisa” and more, this tribute is sure to delight the audience with some recognizable hits.

The Nat King Cole Songbook is part of the orchestra’s SuperPOPS! Series, which explores favorite pieces outside of the typical Masterworks Series. With The Nat King Cole Songbook, we have the chance to witness some of the greatest music produced during the golden age of jazz.

Denzal Sinclaire, who will be serenading us with Cole’s greatest hits, is an accomplished singer in his own right. The Canadian native is recognized as one of the top jazz singers of his generation.

We had a chance to ask him about the show:

What’s your favorite part of the Nat King Cole Songbook show?

“I could say the entire evening is a favorite moment. However, I do enjoy the magic that often happens during Nature Boy, Smile and Amazing Grace.”

What do you think audiences will enjoy the most?

“Smile tends to garner a lot of positive feedback from both the musicians and the audience.”

Your voice is uncannily similar to Nat King Cole’s.

“Thanks for the compliment. I didn’t train my voice to sound like his, per se. He was indeed a big inspiration. I used to sing along to his records when I was growing up because I liked the sound of his voice. As I grew older, my voice settled into a baritone range similar to his. I’m not trying to sound like him when I sing though.”
