Angel Lewis, founder of Linen Michael, started the company exactly one year ago. The idea came to her as a new mom who was looking for affordable clothing with a minimal style for her daughter.

Lewis was working in sports marketing here in Birmingham at the time, and never thought her hobby of designing children’s clothing would turn into a business venture.

“I never envisioned quitting my full-time job. Three months later, I was working on it every night after work—and before I knew it I had a business.”

The Clothes

Linen Michael’s clothing designs reflect a minimal, European style with a Southern flair. Lewis wanted to design an alternative to the traditional Southern style of smocked clothing and embroidery. Linen Michael clothing includes shorts, jumpers, sweaters, dresses and more in neutral color palettes.

Affordability was also important to Lewis. Anyone with kids knows that spending a small fortune on clothing that is destined to end up covered in food or mud (or whatever your child has decided to get into that day) can be frustrating. We often end up reserving our kids’ “cute” clothes for weekends.

The goal, according to Lewis, is that kids can wear Linen Michael clothing whenever and wherever. “Sometimes you just want your kids to play cute,” she said.

Sizes start at 0-6 months and run up to 7T. The clothing is designed to be unisex, so brothers and sisters can share!
