‘Tis the season, Birmingham! The holidays are just around the corner. Want to get the family into the spirit? Check out the events below.
1) The Mutt-cracker
You’ve likely heard of the famous ballet “The Nutcracker,” but have you ever seen the production with dogs included? Check out Birmingham Ballet’s performance of The Mutt-cracker, which is sure to be pawesome.

2) Movies at the Alabama Theatre
One of my favorite holiday traditions—Christmas movies at the Alabama Theatre—is back again this year. Holiday classics like The Polar Express, Christmas Vacation, Elf and more will be playing throughout December. Check out their full list of movies and showtimes.

3) Red Mountain Theatre Holiday Spectacular
This year marks the 15th annual Red Mountain Theatre Company (RMTC) Holiday Spectacular in Birmingham. RMTC Conservatory students will be performing alongside local actors in this anticipated event. Catch your favorite holiday songs and even some original material, too! Tickets start at $19.

4) Holidays at McWane
Is your child getting stir crazy at home? It may be time for a trip to McWane Science Center. The center’s Magic of Model Trains exhibit starts this week and runs until January 2020.
There’s also a gingerbread workshop December 14 & 21 where you can make your own gingerbread creation to take home with you. Yum!

5) Magic of Lights: Vulcan’s Holiday Light Experience
Christmas isn’t Christmas without lights. Vulcan Park & Museum puts on a lovely display. Enjoy a light display synched with holiday music at Vulcan’s Magic of Lights kickoff event December 8!

6) Hanukkah Sing Along & Story Time
Members of the Jewish Community Center in Birmingham can enjoy this free Hanukkah event coming up on December 18. Bring the kiddos (ages 5 and under) for some festive songs, a Hanukkah story and snacks.

7) Cahabazaar Holiday Market
If December 14 rolls around and you’re still searching for that perfect holiday gift, head over to Cahaba Brewing for Cahabazaar. In addition to vendors, there will be live music and special beer releases. Cheers!

8) Grand Menorah Lighting
The Summit will be hosting its fifth annual Grand Menorah Lighting on December 22.
