Get ready to walk (or run!) while raising awareness for a great cause. Here are six fundraising walks taking place in Birmingham in November.

Vulcan Run 10K

Grab your running shoes! It’s time for the Vulcan 10K race hosted by the Birmingham Track Club.

The race started as the Bicentennial Run in November 1875 with just 221 runners. Today, it has grown into one of the most popular racing events in the Southeast with over 1,000 runners.

With a fundraising goal of $2000, proceeds from the Vulcan 10K will benefit Vulcan Park and Museum and Girls on the Run.

Walk to End Epilepsy

Saturday, November 2 marks the Epilepsy Foundation of Alabama’s annual  Walk to End Epilepsy. 

Taking place at Railroad Park, walk with others in the community seeking to advocate for those who struggle daily with seizures. 

All proceeds from the event benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of Alabama through:

  • Support programs
  • Client services
  • Advocacy

Out of the Darkness Walk

Join the effort of hundreds of thousands to raise awareness and funds for the American Foundation for Suicide prevention during the Out of the Darkness walk on Sunday, November 3.

Increased awareness and funds allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to:

  • Invest in new research
  • Create educational programs
  • Advocate for public policy
  • Support survivors of suicide loss

Online registration ends at noon on Friday, November 1. But anyone who would like to participate in the walk can register in person the day of the event.

December 7 of this year marks 26 years I have had Type 1 Diabetes. That’s 26 years of waiting for a cure.

On Sunday, November 3, head to Railroad Park and join the Central Alabama One Walk benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) – Alabama Chapter. 

Raising awareness and funds will help turn “Type One into Type None!”

Magic City Half Marathon, 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run

The Magic City Half Marathon, 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run is gearing up for its ninth annual event. And the event is huge! Over 2,000 athletes are expected to participate.

The race is for a great cause, too. Proceeds from the event benefit the Ruben Studdard Foundation for the Advancement of Children in the Music Arts.

The coolest part, though, is that the race takes place on Regions Field. The finish line is just behind home plate, which is where you’ll find some of Birmingham’s tastiest food trucks waiting to reenergize your body after a job well done!

Sam Lapidus Montclair Run

It’s time to register for the 43rd annual Sam Lapidus Montclair Run! 

Funds raised from the run benefit the Levite Jewish Community Center and the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s of Alabama. 

Here’s a breakdown of the event schedule:

  • 8:10AM: Team photos
  • 8:30AM: 10/5K begins
  • 8:30-9:45AM: Fun run registration
  • 10:30AM: Awards ceremony

The event takes place on Thanksgiving morning, so be sure to wear your turkey gear!
