Hey, football fans! The 2019 UAB Blazers Football season is just under a week away from kickoff on August 29th at Legion Field. Here are the top 7 reasons to come out to support Birmingham’s favorite fire-breathing football team. Oh, and don’t forget your shakers.

Celebrate the Blazers’ Return 🏆

Last year the Blazers made one of the biggest returns in college football history. Rewind to 2014, when the UAB Blazers Football program was disbanded due to budgetary constraints. But that didn’t keep them down for long; the team was reinstated only a few years later in 2017, and they came back to WIN.

The monumental 2018 season included 11 wins, a conference championship, and UAB’s first bowl game win! Additionally, Head Coach Bill Clark won the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award! This year promises to be one of the most exciting seasons in recent history as the Blazers look to repeat the success of their 2018 season.

Get Hype at Blazer Village 🏈

Blazer Village is the one-stop-shop for Blazer fans on gameday! Located on the west side of Legion Field, Blazer Village is fun for fans of all ages. Young fans can play on inflatable toys, dance with the DJ and even get their face painted!

Adults can visit local vendors, attend the tailgate and purchase the latest game-day gear from the UAB Bookstore. Additionally, the new beer garden and pregame lounge are open to fans 21 and older. Sample local and regional craft beers beginning 4 hours before kickoff.

Join the team at Blazer Walk 🎉

Two hours before kickoff, Blazers fans line the path from Blazers Village leading to the stadium gates. Join the Marching Blazers and spirit teams as they rally the fans for the arrival of the Blazers! Coach Bill Clark will lead the Blazers from Blazer Village to the north side of Legion Field. Cheer on the team and sing along to Blazer Victory (don’t worry if you’re a bit rusty, former Dean of UAB School of Health Professions and friends will teach you the tune!)

Meet Blaze himself 🐲🎇

Have you ever wanted to meet Blaze, the friendly dragon? Birmingham’s favorite dragon will be hanging out at Blazer Village before the game. Blaze is ready for a photo-op with the entire family, so come out and meet him!

Make sure to keep an eye to the sky during the game. Every time the Blazers score, a burst of flames will shoot to the sky! Everyone knows dragons breathe fire.

Birminghamians LOVE football, and we are incredibly fortunate to have such a successful college football program at UAB. And since their reinstatement in 2017, the Blazers have been undefeated at home games.

The huge crowd of fans at Legion Field definitely help the Blazers with a home-field advantage. With the Blazers playing 6 home games this season, they are counting on their fans to show out and support their winning streak!
