Whether you rate yourself as the next winner of the Masters or you’ve only recently considered taking up the game, there’s some fantastic public golf courses within a short distance of Birmingham. It’s time to dust off those clubs and get ready to hit the fairways (hopefully) with our guide to 9 public golf courses within 25 miles of Birmingham. 

Remember to wear two pairs of trousers when you play…in case you get a hole in one!

Now that I have your attention; 18 hole price ranges have been included for guidance. Check with each course for 9 hole prices, special discounts, senior/junior pricing, twilight/winter deals. Also, most clubs have tuition available for beginners.

1) Ballantrae Golf Club, Pelham

Course details: Rolling hills and spectacular views. 18 holes over 7,310 yards with a par of 72.

2) Bent Brook Golf Club, Bessemmer (Three 9 hole courses)

Course details: Three courses; Brook, Windmill and Graveyard (which actually has an old graveyard on site).

Brook/Graveyard: 18 holes over 7,222 yards with a par of 72

Course details: Offers a golfing experience that will challenge all player levels . One of the best bargains in the area. 18 holes over 6,509 yards with a par of 71.

4) The City of Bessemer, Frank House Municipal Golf Course

Course details: A good course for beginners with little water and sand hazards. 18 holes over 6,346 yards with a par of 72.

Course details: An interesting and challenging course with some spectacular views of downtown Birmingham. 18 holes over 5,801 yards with a par of 70.

6) Horse Creek Golf Course, Dora

Course details: Reasonable green fees that won’t wipe out your wallet. A fun course with multiple water hazards and elevation changes. 18 holes over 6,552 yards with a par of 72.

7) Oak Mountain State Park Golf Course “The Oaks”

8) Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Ross Bridge

Course details: One of the longest courses in the world. Look out for the spectacular waterfall dropping 80 feet between the ninth and eighteenth greens. 18 holes over 8,191 yards with a par of 72.

9) Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley (Three 18 hole courses)

Ridge Course: Roller coaster fairways, heavy tree cover ,and huge elevation changes.  18 holes over 7,055 yards with a par of 72.

Valley Course: Tree-lined and dotted with picturesque lakes.  18 holes over 7,167 yards with a par of 72.

Short Course: A delightful collection of 18 pure one-shotters which offer severe elevation changes. Virtually every hole plays downhill.  18 holes over 3,360 yards with a par of 54.
