Last week, the United Way of Central Alabama kicked off their 2019 Pacesetter Campaign with 71 companies and a fundraising goal of $13,500,000.

Led by Jill Deer, vp of planning, administration, and risk at Brasfield & Gorrie, this year’s summer campaign represents two firsts for the organization – the largest number of companies /organizations participating and the largest goal in the summer campaign’s history.

Jeff Stone, executive vice president, Brasfield & Gorrie, and 2019 United Way Campaign Chair commenting on Deer’s ambitious goal, “My hope is when we get near the end of the campaign, we can say we truly made a difference in our community and lived united.”

Campaign Runs from June to July

The Pacesetter campaign will run through June and July and precedes the larger United Way fundraising campaign happening in the fall.

At the recent campaign kickoff held at the Florentine in downtown Birmingham, Lou Lacey, Director of Emotional Wellness at Children’s of Alabama, delivered an emotional testimony about her long-standing history with United Way, which started in 1982 when she became a client at a United Way funded agency.

She said the volunteer who helped her had such a significant impact on her life, she became a United Way volunteer and eventually worked at two UWCA partner agencies, the Crisis Center and Children’s of Alabama. “These lessons describe the whole premise of United Way, which is, let’s come together and do things that matter to help one another.”

Deer also introduced the 2019 Pacesetter Loaned Executives and the 2019 Pacesetter Class.
