From everything we’ve seen on social media, the vibes seems to be elegant, romantic and intimate. The atmosphere is stylish with intimate lounge spaces available for reservation and patio areas on two sides.
In July, Dread River will be open nightly for cocktail and light-bite service. Tours and tastings will be available through booking, and guests will also be allowed to purchase up to three bottles of spirits per day. They’re also looking to host events for parties of 5 to 500 with an on-site commercial catering kitchen.
What’s in a Name? 🥀
If you’ve been around Birmingham long enough, you’ve probably heard stories about the underground river flowing below Downtown Birmingham. Dread River Distilling Co. is tapping into the myth and mystery of that story and bringing something tangible for Birminghamians to enjoy.
Dread River was co-founded by Dr. Jeffery Dugas, orthopedic surgeon at Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center; and John Cubelic, former Auburn wide receiver and film/event producer. Other team members include Birmingham native, Cyd Quick their Event Coordinator, Carl White their
Head Distiller and Michelle Piechowicz their
Lead Brewer.
“Dread River is symbolic of the chasm between us and where we wanted to go, the relentless torrent of issues and roadblocks, and the frigid fear of failure. In making this distillery a reality, we realized that overcoming fears isn’t something we did, it’s who we are. For us, “dread” is not a paralytic, it’s an inspiration; it’s a goal worth pursuing, waiting to be achieved.”
John Cubelic, Co-Founder of Dread River Distilling Co.
