Guide to shopping local beauty and skincare products in Birmingham including Botaniko at FarmStand in Pepper Place
Finding new local businesses to support is one of my favorite past times— especially because I recently moved to Birmingham. Since I’m also a sucker for anything beauty related, I thought I’d turn my hunt for the best local beauty products/shops into something useful for everyone. So, here’s my guide for shopping local beauty products in Birmingham:
When it comes to beauty and skin care, I’ve slowly (but surely) been transitioning to using clean, eco-friendly, and local products as frequently as I can. I’m not only looking for quality products but also businesses and brands I believe in. These are a few of my favorites in Birmingham.
Botaniko Skin at FarmStand
- Price: $$
- Store location: 2825 2nd Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35233
- Hours: Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM
Botaniko is honestly one of the coolest companies I’ve heard of, and they’re based right here in Birmingham. According to their website, the founders—a mother/daughter duo—run an 80-acre flower farm where they develop botanical extracts from the flowers and herbs they grow to use in their products. They sell everything from candles and perfume, to cleansers and serums. You can find their products at a few places around Birmingham, at the Stone Hollow Farmstead, and also online here.
Dreamer’s Supply Co. in Forest Park
- Price: $-$$$
- Store location: 825 39th St S unit a, Birmingham, AL 35222
- Hours: Tuesday-Thursday 11-6pm, Friday-Saturday 11-4pm
Personally, this little shop checks all of my boxes. You know the gifts you would buy for someone else, but you end up loving them too much to actually give them away? Yeah, their shop is full of those. Think minimalistic journals, curated patches, dainty jewelry and the snazziest selection of skincare goods—for women and men. Some products they retail include beard oil and natural deodorant for guys, and facial oils and cremes for the ladies. You can swing by their shop in Forest Park between The Rougaroux and Zoe’s in Forest Park, or check their Instagram for a peek at some of their products.
Ensley Beauty in Ensley
- Price range: $-$$$
- Store location: 1802 Avenue E, Birmingham, AL 35218
- Hours: Monday-Saturday, 8AM-6PM
Ensley Beauty Supply has been in business AND at the same location for 36 years—That fact alone was enough to earn them a spot on my list. They are locally owned and operated, and they distribute over 300 product lines. Their hair and skincare products are extremely affordable. Also, they sell an unreal amount of beauty shop/barber shop/spa equipment. You can shop all 15,000 sq. feet of their store in Ensley or shop online here.
Freedom Soap Company in Vestavia Hills
- Price range: $
- Shop location: 3131 Bellwood Dr, Vestavia Hills, AL 35243
- Hours: Monday and Wednesday 10AM-4PM, Friday 10AM-2PM
Freedom Soap Co. is my go-to for eco-friendly and environmentally conscious skincare products. It’s refreshing to shop at a store and not have to worry one bit about production, ingredients or waste. Freedom Soap products are all-natural, palm oil free—read more on that here—and handmade in small batches. Of course, they sell soap, but they also sell toning water, lip balms, bath salts and more. Shop their products online, or at their (pink!!!) shop in Vestavia Hills.
Beaute Therapie in Mountain Brook
- Price range: $$
- Store location: 2834 Culver Road, Mountain Brook, AL 35223
- Hours: Monday-Friday 10AM-4PM, Saturday 11AM-3PM
