It’s been awhile since Slag Heap Brewing Co. first broke ground in Trussville. But the wait for this new, and much-awaited, brewery is finally drawing to an end with its grand opening happening this Sat. on Sept. 1.

Located at 227 Main St., Slag Heap is part of Trussville’s “Quad One” development, which is underway in the area’s downtown center as part of its huge revitalization plans.

Quad One will also soon include:

  • Event stage
  • Large pavilion
  • Additional parking
  • Retail shops
  • New restaurants (Melt, Trussville Common House, Ferus Artisan Ales and Edgar’s Bakery, which also has plans to open in Sept.)

Who is behind Slag Heap? Owner, Joe Meadows, who has been crafting beers as a hobby for over 25 years. (I think we’ll be in pretty good hands!)

The Brews

What kind of beers will be on tap at Slag Heap? The Brewing company will offer a seasonal rotation of beers. (We all love a good seasonal brew!)

The first six will be… (drumroll please!)

  • Irish Red Ale
  • Weisenbach
  • Double IPA
  • English pub beer under nitrogen
  • 2 different pale ales

Flyboard samples of all six varieties will be available for purchase.

Bring the Kids

One of the great things about Slag Heap is that its goal is to provide a relaxing and family-friendly environment. So feel free to bring the kids along!

You can even treat them to a “beer”—root beer that is! (settle down ‘rents!)

Slag Heap’s drink menu will also include homemade root beer that is perfect or kids and those who don’t drink alcohol.

Chow Down

While no food will be available for sale at Slag Heap (at least not until they get food trucks rolling in as planned), outside food is available, so bring in what you’d like to chow down on. You can also order food to be delivered.

You may want to consider The Three Earred Rabbit located just a few steps away. This Trussville favorite will be offering delivery of their delicious grilled cheese sandwiches during Slag Heap’s grand opening.

Kids aren’t the only ones allowed at Slag Heap—dogs are, too. So be sure to bring your pup along for bonus entertainment.
