Where can one of the best Thai restaurants in Birmingham be found? If you ask locals, it’s served at Blue Pacific at Hoover Food Mart.

Thai food from a gas station? Okay, so it may be the very last place you would ever expect to find amazing authentic Thai cuisine. But, Birmingham locals actually flock to Blue Pacific, which proves that location isn’t everything. Besides, the best places are usually ones that are considered holes in the wall, right?

Blue Pacific (and the Hoover Food Mart it resides in) first opened in May of 2015 after Sam Aroonsakulwongse and his family purchased the space. Initially starting out as a rather unexpected location to serve Thai food, quickly became a favorite for locals in the greater Birmingham area.

Its incredible reviews show just how loved Blue Pacific really is. Check them out, here.

“It’s an honor to be serving authentic Thai food to the Birmingham community,” said Atia and Alysa Aroonsakulwongse.  “We initially believed that it would be a small restaurant with small crowds of people. With all the locals that come in, sometimes three days a week, it makes us feel so loved and honored that people enjoy our food.”

Though eating space is small, there are some perks to having a restaurant directly inside of a gas station. One being that you have access to anything from the mini mart. So grab a coke, water or even a bag of M&Ms for dessert and bring it straight to your table. Easy and fun, don’t you think?

So what do they serve?

The menu features appetizers, noodle dishes and rice dishes. All of the recipes come from the owner’s grandmother and are exactly what you would eat if you were in Thailand. Most popular items include the Pad Thai, Spicy Basil Chicken and Coconut Soup.

They also offer special daily dishes throughout the week. On Fridays, for example, you can get the Thai BBQ Pork ($5) or the Tom Yam Kung soup ($8).

Prices are low, ranging from $5 for appetizers like the fried wontons (you get 10!) and reaching up to $10 for dishes like the Yellow Curry Noodle Bowl.
