UAB creates “Shark Tank” type challenge for Students

Ever seen Shark Tank? Think of people with grand or even simple ideas bringing their dreams to the very people who can make them a reality. UAB’s iLab, the university Innovation Lab, is doing the same for their students.

Teamed with IBERIABANK, UAB created the Blazer Innovation Challenge to foster inventive thinking amongst students in relation to products, services, or process challenges.  All UAB students were eligible to participate as long as they planned to be enrolled during the 2016-2017 school year.

Winners could receive up to $5,000 but the real prize will be the mentoring and other iLab resources that will help turn their dreams into reality. The goal is to inspire students to put their minds to work and help those with ideas to take the next step towards their goals.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our students to put their ideas on the table and receive mentoring and coaching from professionals on how to turn those ideas into real businesses.”

-Eric P. Jack, Ph.D., dean of the Collat School of Business

The competition will be held on November 16th at the iLab. Students will show a video presentation and live Q&A before a panel of judges.

Join us live on November 16th at the Challenge, we will provide updates throughout the event. Tune in between 3:30pm to 5:30pm.
